Anxiety? Depression? Maybe this can help.
I’ve been looking for a good, free resource on CBT for people who don’t have access, funds or time for one-on-one therapy and I found a basic, but very good one today. If you suffer from depression or anxiety (or variations thereof), I thoroughly recommend it. It changed my life. You can find the FREE self-help introductory course here. In case you don’t know what CBT is, let me explain. It’s a rational approach to dealing with the negative thought patterns/behaviours many of us form (and maintain) throughout our lives. CBT will help you find new ways of dealing with old problems. It’ll also teach you how to separate a thought from a fact. Before I began CBT I tormented myself regularly. Crippling self-criticism, self-loathing, self-sabotage. I could come home from a perfectly fine day and ruin it in minutes by reviewing everything that had happened and attempting to identify what I’d not done “well”. Not well would turn into bad, bad to evil- and it wouldn’t take long before I decided I never wanted to be seen in public again. CBT won’t stop you from having negative/unhelpful thoughts, but it will completely change the way you deal with them. The biggest realization for me was understanding how unreasonable my thoughts could be. My motivations for self-torment had very little basis in fact. I imagine that’s the case for most people. Once you realize that, a lot of time that was used for negative pursuits will be freed up, and that’s when you can finally start moving in the other direction.
