I Like My Virgin Mary with Extra Tabasco
Pope Evita is at it again. Apparently Catholics woke up and decided they didn’t hate the gays. This means the media is abuzz with titles like:
This comes on the heels of one the most disgusting anti-gay campaigns in the history of Europe led precisely by the Catholic Church. They failed miserably (again). Before failing they went so far as to promote a nationwide ‘Prayer for France’ in which they urged their followers to protest gay unions and euthanasia. Because obviously, euthanasia and gay unions are connected?!? I know, you’re all thinking ‘whoa, he woke up in a bad mood. Pope Evita is way better than Pope Nazi Youth.‘ You’re right, Pope Evita is better (at PR). In any event, whatever his opportunistic motivations may be, it’s progress. It’s progress because it will cause a schism and schisms are an excellent way to reduce the power or supposed legitimacy of any organization. I can already see people like New York’s Cardinal Dolan (who just 3 months ago sent out a bulletin calling for a renewed wave of anti-gay sentiment) proposing to secede. They’ll probably set up shop in Texas where seceding is popular these days.
Snark aside, anyone who thinks this is a move generated by any genuine sentiment doesn’t understand how the church works. It’s a company, a brand like Coca-Cola or Marlboro. Every move they make is a well calculated decision to maximize their earnings and increase their clientèle. Historically speaking, creating hate and division were the most popular methods of achieving their goals. This new age of easy-access information we live in makes it harder and harder for them to lie and manipulate facts and statistics to support their fraudulent campaigns of hate and marginalization. Pope Evita’s rise to power is a reflection of this. He’s the new CEO coming in to re-brand the church and launch their new product line.
