Mitt Romney & His 1st Class Tickets to Planet Kolob
by pinkagendist
I’m not one to pick on religion… HA- just kidding! Interesting video on Mormonism. I have to admit I find it funny Christians seem so ready to single out Mormons when they all share equally absurd beliefs. Planet Kolob is only as absurd as magic crackers and the whole transubstantiation rubbish. Lighting a candle in a church or sacrificing a chicken in a Candomblé ritual are in essence the same flawed thinking: The idea that one can change the course of events with some sort of magical intervention. Mormons baptising dead people is no more offensive and condescending as a Christian saying they’ll pray for you. Today Andrew Sullivan is asking us to have a look at Romney’s religion. I’ll save my critique of Sullivan for another time except to say he calls himself a ‘secularist Christian’- which is an oxymoron.

Would love to get your thoughts on my piece entitled “OMG… where are you?” Also, any thoughts you have on its related articles, linked in the comments section of that page are also welcome

Are you sure you want my opinion?
Interesting and frightening film–thanks for posting it. I didn’t realize that the Smiths were originally Freemasons. That explains a lot about Mormonism, for me anyway.
And each sect thinks it heretical to have someone criticize their magic rituals but are happy to denounce those of other sects. Even better than that, hardly a one of them knows where their religious traditions and rituals come from. They have dozens of names for YHWH but don’t know why. The Abrahamic faiths all claim to have a divine book but never freaking read it. The ones that do read it skip selectively over any parts that they disagree with. Mormons get to be a special kind of crazy because they do their whack job shit in secret. … or used to. I hope we see a lot more of this type of thing. Fresh air is good for everything – time we got some into the back of their temples.
Love it! You write more, I write less
Hurray! Beware, I might even just plagiarize you and sign at the bottom!
Maybe I’ll get famous? lol
I’ve been friends with Mormons who went to Temple regularly (only if they were giving 10% of their income to the church in order to get that “temple recommend”. Once you slide on your payments, you’re banned.)
They never told me it was like that. LOL
And I thought the constant undergarment wearing was bizarre….
10%?????????? Is that after taxes? I am SOOOOOOO not giving 10% of my money away to a church…
It’s 10% before taxes, I believe. That’s what it takes to be in “good standing” with the church and is part of getting a “temple recommend.” They don’t just let any ole Mormon into the Celestial room.
There’s some pretty messed up shit going on in that Mormon church. As a good Catholic boy all I ever did was eat the flesh and drink the blood of Christ. You know, normal stuff.
Another good catholic gay boy? You’re totally treading on my territory! I’m kidding, I’m rarely good. Sometimes excellent, sometimes mediocre, rarely good.
It’s entirely possible that I’m not either.
Having spent my childhood as a Catholic, I quite like christian principles – basically the ones in the parables. They make sense to me… as a way to /live/. What I can’t reconcile is the whole concept of worship – in any religion. It’s all about me promising to be ‘good’ so some invisible being will do me favours, like intervening to stop me being run over by a bus. That’s pretty much how a young child learns to behave with authority but it’s not the way you’d expect an adult to behave. Yet there it is… millions of people all going ‘me, me, me’ at once.
Sigh… I didn’t watch the video because it bills itself as showing the temple rituals. I don’t have to watch it–I remember them still.
Yeah. They’re weird. Any questions that an ex-insider could answer?
