When I got to the part about electing an openly gay person to the Senate I literally did a double take. Does that mean there /isn’t/ one? At all?
I don’t mean to boast but there is an amazing woman by the name of Penny Wong who holds a very senior position in Australia’s current government. She is youngish, female, Australian-Chinese AND openly gay. And just about every aussie I know loves her. We have also had an openly gay man as the leader of one of our smaller opposition parties for years.
There is homophobia in Australia as well but it doesn’t seem to affect the way we vote. I think it’s high time a gay politician stood for office and was elected ON HIS [HER] MERITS!
As of September 2011 there were none in the USA. Here in Spain we have openly gay politicians in every house. There’s even a progressive wing of the conservative party who supports gay marriage (including the minister of justice).
I had no idea Spain was so forward thinking! I’m sorry that’s me being ignorant rather than rude. I wonder if the US reluctance to accept the gay generally is really all about redneck and religion or whether it has something to do with the anglo inhibitions regarding sex in general? I know we [Australians] are far more relaxed about sex and nudity on tv than the US.
Love it!
He’s hit it on the nose
It would be so much funnier if it weren’t so true. Thanks for the giggle.
I was screaming with laughter. I’d like to hang out with the author.
But Jesus was gay…
totally: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WLKk00OYKhU
That was one of the best things I’ve ever seen. Unfortunately it was so funny my wife’s had a fit. Speak to you when we get back from the hospital…
Hospital?
Yes, it’s a big building where doctors and nurse work
I’ve heard… I stay away from them, I hear there are sick people there!
Same as Parliament – now that’s sick
Sorry – she was laughing a lot though…
