Anderson Cooper: ‘The fact is, I’m gay’ | The Lookout – Yahoo! News
by pinkagendist
“Anderson Cooper has confirmed what most people in the media world and New York already knew: he is gay.
“The fact is, I’m gay,” Cooper wrote in an email to Daily Beast blogger Andrew Sullivan. “Always have been, always will be, and I couldn’t be any more happy, comfortable with myself, and proud.”
Sullivan, who is gay and is a longtime friend of Cooper’s, had asked the CNN anchor for his reaction to a recent Entertainment Weekly story about the importance of gay celebrities coming out of the closet to combat America’s bullying epidemic.
“Andrew, as you know, the issue you raise is one that I’ve thought about for years,” Cooper responded. “Even though my job puts me in the public eye, I have tried to maintain some level of privacy in my life. Part of that has been for purely personal reasons. I think most people want some privacy for themselves and the people they are close to.”

We all figured he was, but it helps the gay rights movement when people express openly they are gay.
It’s disgusting that, at this time in human history, anyone feels they have to hide it. We should be more evolved than that.
We should… I’m just irritated he didn’t do it when I was young and pretty and still had a chance
Yeah, he is a silver fox. But, you’re taken now anyway.
I’m old-school. Always room for an affair with Gloria Vanderbilt’s son
does it really matter if he is gay or not, surely we have got past on judging people by their sexuality ?
What planet are you living on??
It matters in America. Here, gays are treated like second class citizens. They can’t marry, can’t adopt, can’t serve in the military, even as translators. Here in America, gays are bullied and sometimes even murdered for being gay, as in the case of University of Wyoming student Matthew Shepard.

And U of W is my alma mater, so you can imagine my horror that such a terrible thing happened there.
It takes courage to come out. They risk their jobs, their personal security, all kinds of things.
And let me add this to my response, even when he’s dead, people were protesting against Matthew for being gay at his funeral!
“Fred Phelps, leader of the Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, Kansas, took his church’s “God Hates Fags” message to the funeral of Matthew Shepard, held in Casper, Wyoming, on Saturday, October 17, 1998. Two of his picket signs read: “No Tears for Queers” and “Fag Matt in Hell.”[15]”
This is America.
I just find it depressing that sexual orientation should still be such a hot issue. Why can’t people just be accepted as people? After all, heterosexual people don’t have to ‘come out’ and shout their sexuality from the roof tops!
I won’t believe society in general has taken a definitive step in the right direction until who you are counts for more than who you sleep with and how you earn.
It’s absurd

Sex is a necessary part of life but who you have sex with? What does it matter? And why should it define and somehow limit who someone is? I know these are rhetoricals. I’m really just railing against this base human need to always, always have someone to hate.
I love AC.. such a smart, classy dude.. so he’s Gay? why should people care.. straight, gay, in another space, we are all human beings..
I, like many others like me, I’m sure, don’t really care if Anderson is gay. Why does the media need to know that detail? Why do I need to know? Why does America need to know? Is it so the Bible Belt will know whether or not to continue watching him?
I don’t fully understand “coming out” I’m certain I never can — and what it must mean, and I applaud Anderson for putting the buzz to rest. But I think it would have been funny for him to come out for his next show dressed in sequins, a feather boa, surrounded by nubile young men with glistening chests. It sure would’ve scared the Bible Belt!
Here in the US there a numerous programs with LGBT characters. It feels all very natural to me. I’m sure I’ve been naive, I’m certain there’s still so much to do to gain mainstream acceptance. More gay Republicans might help here.
Wait, I thought he came out like a hundred years ago…
